Important Notes — 2025/26 Rates & Caveats

FBM referral fees are identical to FBA referral fees — the difference is that FBM sellers pay no FBA fulfilment fee and no Amazon storage fee. Instead, sellers bear their own warehousing, packing and postage costs. FBM is typically more cost-effective for heavy or bulky items where FBA fees are high, for slow-moving inventory (avoiding long-term storage fees), or for sellers with existing logistics operations. FBM sellers must maintain their own Order Defect Rate below 1% to remain eligible to sell.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between Amazon FBA and FBM?

With FBA (Fulfilled by Amazon), sellers send inventory to Amazon's fulfilment centres and Amazon handles storage, picking, packing, shipping and customer returns. With FBM (Fulfilled by Merchant), the seller stores inventory themselves and ships directly to the customer when an order is placed. Both attract the same referral fee, but FBA adds fulfilment and storage fees while FBM adds your own logistics costs.

When is FBM more profitable than FBA?

FBM is often more profitable for: heavy or bulky products where FBA fulfilment fees are very high; slow-moving inventory at risk of long-term storage fees; unique or handmade items where you control fulfilment; and sellers who already operate a warehouse or fulfilment operation at low marginal cost. Use this calculator alongside the FBA calculator to compare net proceeds and choose the best fulfilment model for each product.

Can I use both FBA and FBM on the same Amazon account?

Yes — Amazon allows sellers to use both fulfilment methods on the same account, even for the same product (a strategy called FBM backup or multi-channel fulfilment). Many sellers keep FBM listings active as a backup when FBA inventory runs low. Prime eligibility requires FBA or Seller Fulfilled Prime (SFP) status — standard FBM listings do not show the Prime badge.
