Setting up your business profile for maximum visibility

5 min read

A step-by-step guide to completing your Yolist profile so you rank higher in local search and convert more profile views into enquiries.

Complete every field

Yolist's ranking algorithm rewards profile completeness. Businesses with all core fields filled — name, address, phone, website, categories, description, opening hours — appear, on average, 40% more frequently in local search results than those with partial profiles.

Start with your primary category. Choose the one that best describes your core service (e.g. "Plumber" rather than the broader "Tradesperson"). You can add up to three secondary categories. Secondary categories are particularly valuable if you offer complementary services — for instance, a plumber who also fits bathrooms benefits from both "Plumber" and "Bathroom Installation".

Write a description that sells

Your business description is the primary way to communicate trust and differentiate from competitors. Aim for 100–200 words. Lead with what you do and where you do it ("Family-run electrical contractor serving Brighton and East Sussex since 2009"). Follow with your key credentials, what makes you different, and a call to action.

Avoid keyword stuffing. Natural, readable copy outperforms over-optimised text both in search ranking and with human readers who are evaluating whether to enquire.

Add photos

Profiles with at least five photos receive 3× more enquiries than those with no photos, based on Yolist internal data. Upload: a clear logo, a photo of your premises or van, at least two before/after or finished-work photos, and a team photo if possible.

Use landscape orientation (wider than tall) for best results across mobile and desktop. File names should be descriptive ("brighton-bathroom-renovation-2024.jpg") rather than generic ("IMG_0042.jpg") — this helps image search indexing.

Claim and verify your listing

An unclaimed listing cannot be edited, and unverified contact details reduce conversion. Claiming takes under five minutes: search for your business on Yolist, click "Is this your business?", and follow the verification steps.

Verified businesses receive a blue tick badge on their listing, which increases consumer trust and click-through rates. Premium subscribers also receive priority placement in category and location search results.
