Electricians most searched trade in every UK region Q1 2026
For the first time, electricians overtook plumbers as the most-searched trade category in all 11 UK regions simultaneously in Q1 2026. EV charger and solar installation searches are the key driver.
Electricians claimed the top spot in Yolist search rankings across all 11 UK regions for the first time in Q1 2026, breaking a multi-year dominance by plumbers. The shift is almost entirely explained by the surge in EV charger installation and solar panel enquiries, which together grew 67% year-on-year.
In Q4 2025, plumbers still led in 7 of 11 regions. By Q1 2026, electricians had overtaken across the board — including in traditional trades strongholds like Yorkshire and the North West.
Search volume for "electrician near me" on Yolist rose 34% year-on-year in Q1 2026, while plumbing searches grew at a slower 8%. The gap is almost entirely filled by green-energy sub-categories: EV charger installation (+118%), solar PV installation (+94%), and heat pump electrical work (+71%).
The regional pattern reveals a predictable socioeconomic gradient: EV charger searches are highest in London, the South East, and East of England — areas with higher car ownership, newer housing with driveways, and higher household incomes. Northern regions show stronger growth in commercial electrician searches tied to light industrial expansion.
For electricians, this represents a significant market opportunity — but also a qualification bottleneck. NICEIC estimates that only 38% of currently registered electricians hold the Part P domestic competency certificate required for EV charger installation work. Upskilling demand is significant.
